Background

I have a background in commercial property, economic development and organisational management. For fourteen years I was a main board director of English Estates whose operations are now shared between the Regional Development Agencies and the Homes and Communities Agency. During this time I helped re-shape the organisation's policies and practices and took it into new business areas such as the redevelopment of the Royal Naval Dockyard at Chatham and the development of Belasis Hall Technology Park with ICI.

I became a consultant in 1994 and have worked for a variety of clients throughout the UK and overseas including Government, Regional and Local Development Agencies, major property companies and landowners, local authorities and partnerships.

Experience

      My experience has included:

• A wide range of property related studies, often linked to economic development and/or regeneration.
• Area and strategic development studies.
• The structuring of partnership arrangements between the public and private sectors.
• Science Parks, Business Parks and Technology Centre studies.
• Advice on commercial property schemes.
• Organisational management issues including strategic modelling, departmental structures and the appointment of key personnel.

In carrying out this work I have advised the Department of Trade & Industry in its review of the United Kingdom's Atomic Energy Authority, provided strategies for Yorkshire Forward, OneNE and Advantage West Midlands and project advice to Shell UK. The work has also encompassed area strategies extending from Teesside in the North East of England to Gravesend alongside the Thames and overseas to projects in Russia and Eastern Europe.

Joint Working

I have developed a particularly close association with SQW Ltd and BBP Regeneration and work closely with professionals such as economists, designers, engineers, community consultants and tax advisers. This team working and pooling of resources is often essential to achieve innovative and wide-ranging solutions for regeneration and property schemes.
